General Information
Thank you for your interest in the 63rd annual RMMLA convention, which was held from October 8 - 10, 2009 at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird, Utah -- at 8,100 ft. elevation!
We had an exciting program and were glad to have so many of you join us there. Please scroll down for more pictures of Snowbird.
Special thanks to our local hosts:
Our keynote speaker, the noted writer and photographer Stephen Trimble,
Wallace Stegner Fellow at the University of Utah's Tanner Humanities Center for 2008-2009, gave a wonderful talk at the Friday luncheon buffet. Trimble's book, Bargaining for Eden:
The Fight for the Last Open Spaces in America received the 2004 Utah Arts Council "Literature Program Non-Fiction Book Award." He will also participate in a special panel discussion
on eco-literature and criticism. We were also happy to welcome current and former Utah Poet
Laureates, Katharine Coles
and David
Lee, as well as polyartist, sonosopher, and Poet/Artist in Residence at Utah Valley University, Alex Caldiero. Each did a reading
of his/her works. On Saturday morning, the guest speaker at the
Women's Caucus Breakfast was Jan Whitt, Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado,
Boulder, who gave a
talk entitled "How (and Why) the News Media Scare Women."
