General Information

The 54th annual RMMLA convention was held at the Grove Hotel in downtown Boise from October 12 - 14, 2000. The local host for this convention was Boise State University and the local arrangements chair, former RMMLA Executive Director, Charlie Davis. Albertson College of Idaho also sponsored some of the activities at this convention. Our keynote speaker was Peter Robinson of De Montfort University in Leicester (UK). Professor Robinson's work on the Canterbury Tales Project was the focus of his talk and informed the "Chaucerian" and early literature theme of this convention (taking place as it did in the 600th anniversary year of Chaucer's death). The title of his talk was "The Human Genome's Tale."

Additional guest speakers included Kreg Segall of Tufts University and the Perseus Project and Frances McSparran of the University of Michigan and Chief Editor of the Middle English Compendium. We invited representatives from TIAA-CREF to come again and discuss investment strategies for college and retirement savings. And finally, Shauna Brown, Visual Marketing Director at Dillard's Department Store at the Boise Towne Square Mall, gave a "Fashion Sense/Cents" presentation with hints on wardrobe selection for professionals (men and women).

We would like to thank the following busineses in Boise for providing us with prizes for the 2000 Boise Convention Raffle:

  • The Flick's Rick's Café Américain: 2 movie tickets
  • Tapas Restaurant: $50 gift certificate
  • The Sandpiper Restaurant, Inc: $40 gift certificate
  • Table Rock Brew Pub and Grill: two $20 gift certificates
  • Café Olé: $10 gift certificate
  • Flying M Coffee House: 10 latté cards and 10 cookie cards
  • Idaho Botanical Garden: passes to the garden and potted plants area
  • Elmer's Pancake and Steak House: five $5 gift certificates
  • Brick Oven Beanery: $20 gift certificate
Funds generated from the raffle go into the new RMMLA Travel and Scholarship Fund. We appreciate support from those who purchased tickets to establish such a fund.

Thanks for your interest in RMMLA and hope to see you in Vancouver in 2001!
