Joseph Smith’s Political Body: The Council of Fifty in Mormon Ideology.
In 1844 Joseph Smith organized a political body called “The Council of Fifty.” Its purpose was to create the necessary political environment to usher in the Second Coming of the Savior and thereafter to rule during the millennium under the divine leadership of the Savior Jesus Christ.
