Mathematics and Composition.

As students struggle with conceptualizing ideas and or understanding the basics of cohesion, it is sometimes useful to refer to mathematics. Writing and mathematics are both conceptual in nature. Both are concerned with representation and both evolve through processes that are well defined: brainstorming (metaphors, inargeia, antithsis), development (relationshipds, subordination, sequencing of ideas) and repair processes (revision). Sometimes illustrating the relationship between the two disicplines can enhance abstract conceptualization and strengthen students' understanding of both disciplines.
